“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”.
Hebrews 11:1 KJV
|Dear Southside Family:
Nearly 100 years ago God stirred the hearts of sixteen charter members to
organize what would become Southside Baptist Church. By faith, the
congregation grew and soon the effects were seen. Only God knew how far those
beginnings would reach. Today, God has again stirred our hearts as we begin our
2020 Vision and only He knows how far the effects of this effort will reach for our
future and His kingdom.
The 2020 Vision is seeing what God will do by His grace and power during the
next 14 years in and through the life and ministry of Southside Baptist Church.
By faith, we have already begun the initiatives to achieve this vision by adopting
the strategic plan, committing a $1,000,000 gift to launch a YMCA in Decatur,
and developing a Master Plan.
We believe the Faith Stewardship Campaign will position and prepare Southside
Baptist Church to do our part in God’s plan. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the
substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. We cannot see the
future but we have faith that God will use our efforts to do His will.
As part of our Faith program, every household is asked to prayerfully consider
making a sacrificial commitment (over and above your regular tithes and offerings)
to be given over the next three years—equal sacrifice, not equal gifts. Our goal is
$800,000 to continue the 2020 Vision.
Watch your mailbox for an invitation to attend the Vision Gathering on April
15th. The purpose of this meeting is to share information, answer questions, and
encourage you to make this a matter of prayer. After you receive your invitation, a
member of the Faith team will contact you to confirm your attendance. Please
know that your personal participation in the Vision Gathering is vital and that no
financial commitments will be taken at these meetings. When you are called,
please say, “yes”.
These are exciting days in our church. By faith, we can follow the footsteps of the
champions of faith (Hebrews 11:1-40) wherever God leads. The results of our
obedience can only be measured by God, but often our obedience to God and
willingness to follow Him at all costs, has a ripple effect on those around us.
Consider the possibility that your obedience to God today can ultimately impact
your family, co-workers, friends, neighborhood, and all who know you.
Let us commit to Faith for His glory and honor.
